Job Summary
The Logistics Specialist – Biological Products is responsible for the planning, coordination, and execution of logistics operations involving temperature-sensitive and regulated biological materials. This role ensures compliance with regulatory standards, maintains product integrity throughout the supply chain, and optimizes transportation, storage, and distribution processes.
Key Responsibilities
1. Logistics & Supply Chain Coordination
- Plan and manage the end-to-end logistics of biological products (e.g., blood products or biologics).
- Coordinate inbound and outbound shipments with internal teams, suppliers, and logistics providers.
- Monitor shipment status and proactively resolve delays or disruptions.
- Optimize transportation routes, carriers, and costs while maintaining compliance.
2. Temperature-Controlled Supply Chain Management
- Ensure proper handling of cold chain logistics (2–8°C, frozen, ultra-low temperature).
- Monitor temperature data using tracking systems and ensure compliance with product specifications.
- Investigate and report temperature excursions; implement corrective actions.
- Select and validate appropriate packaging solutions (e.g., insulated shippers, dry ice, LN2).
3. Regulatory Compliance & Quality Assurance
- Ensure compliance with GDP (Good Distribution Practice), GMP (where applicable), and relevant regulatory requirements (e.g., EMA, FDA, WHO).
- Maintain accurate documentation for audits and inspections.
- Support qualification and validation of logistics processes and vendors.
- Participate in risk assessments and deviation management.
4. Vendor & Carrier Management
- Manage relationships with third-party logistics providers (3PLs), couriers, and freight forwarders.
- Evaluate vendor performance (KPIs, SLAs).
- Support contract negotiations and onboarding of new logistics partners.
5. Inventory & Warehouse Coordination
- Collaborate with warehouse teams to ensure proper storage and handling of biological products.
- Monitor inventory levels and coordinate replenishment.
- Ensure compliance with storage conditions and traceability requirements.
6. Documentation & Reporting
- Prepare shipping documentation (e.g., airway bills, customs declarations, certificates).
- Maintain shipment records, temperature logs, and compliance documentation.
- Generate reports on logistics performance, deviations, and KPIs.
7. Continuous Improvement
- Identify process inefficiencies and implement improvements.
- Support digitalization initiatives (e.g., track & trace systems, automation).
- Contribute to SOP development and updates.
Skills & Competencies
Technical Skills
- Knowledge of GDP/GMP regulations.
- Experience with temperature-controlled logistics.
- Familiarity with ERP systems (e.g., SAP) and logistics tracking tools.
- Understanding of packaging solutions for biological materials.
